Dan Pelino is responsible for the strategic direction of IBM's global healthcare and life sciences business. He leads his team in developing the latest information technology solutions and services, establishing partnerships, and overseeing IBM investments in the healthcare, pharmaceutical and life sciences markets. Dan works closely with leaders in healthcare and life sciences, helping them leverage IBM capabilities to address issues facing the industry.


Dan Cerutti is the general manager of IBM Watson Commercialization, responsible for bringing to market the DeepQA technologies pioneered in the Watson system that competed on the Jeopardy! quiz show.


Mr. Cerutti was previously GM of IBM Smart Business, a brand of solutions for small and medium sized organizations sold by business partners. Dan was also GM of IP Licensing, responsi-ble for all patent and software technology related IP transactions across the company. Dan has been involved in leading edge technologies and new IT businesses for 25 years, including intimate involvement in the formation and growth of a dozen businesses.


Dan was CEO of Cylant, a security technology company sold to Reflex Security; the founder and CEO of Veridiem, a marketing analytics company sold to SAS; and the founder and CEO of Amulet, an Internet pioneer that created an automated research service called InfoWizard that debuted in 1995. Earlier in his career, Dan's positions included VP Work Management Products at Wang, Director of Multimedia Technology at IBM, and the first AIX RS/6000 System Manager at IBM.


He holds computer science degrees from Harvard and Syracuse, and is the author of a McGraw-Hill textbook titled Distributed Computing Environments.


Dr. Shapiro is senior vice president and chief medical and scientific officer, UPMC. He works closely on clinical and scientific activity for all international locations. Dr. Shapiro's primary focus is research activity, and he assists with physician recruitment, policy development, and providing the important linkages between UPMC's international locations and key departments within UPMC's Physician Services Division.
