A popular public speaker and commentator, Bragdon writes and speaks on a variety of security-related issues and moderates at numerous industry events, including CSO seminars, events, and round tables as well as serving as Executive Producer of the IDC Security Forum and the IDG Security Standard. Bragdon has been quoted by major media organizations, including CNN, The Washington Post, National Journal Technology Daily, and United Press International (UPI).
In 2007, Bragdon was named Publisher of the Year by Media Business magazine. Prior to his role as publisher of CSO, Bragdon served as vice president of event marketing for COMDEX at Key3Media Events, where he managed sales, marketing, and sponsorships for the six North American COMDEX events. He was also responsible for co-developing several security-focused programs and events, providing Bragdon with a firsthand look at the evolving security industry. Bragdon has also held various management positions in marketing, sales, and product development at SOFTBANK, Ziff-Davis, and Cahners Publishing.
Bragdon is a member of ASIS International and is a graduate of Bowdoin College with a BA degree in government and international relations. | Chris ChristiansenProgram VP, IDC - Security Products and Services Group Chris Christiansen is the Program Vice President for IDC's Security Products and Services Group. He conducts in-depth primary research and provides insight and analysis on a variety of evolving security markets. Christiansen delivers critical market intelligence to technology vendors, IT professionals, and the financial community. His areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, firewalls; encryption; antivirus software; authentication, administration, and authorization (AAA) software; intrusion detection and vulnerability assessment; and security management.
Prior to his current position with IDC, Christiansen was director of IDC's Asset Management service. In this position, he managed the group's research activities, analyzed end-user business issues, and developed IDC’s cost-of-ownership model. Christiansen also worked for IDC’s Worldwide Commercial Systems Group, where he followed midrange vendors such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Siemens, Stratus, and Unisys.
Before joining IDC, Christiansen founded Meta Group’s Midrange Service and consulted extensively with large users on open systems, Internet access, storage management, server consolidation, vendor negotiation, database selection, maintenance audits, software asset management, and systems/network management. Prior to Meta Group, he held positions with Data General, Wang Laboratories, Yankee Group, and Creative Strategies International.
Christiansen holds a master of science degree from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Millersville University. | Michael HallChief Information Security Officer, DriveSavers Data Recovery, Inc. Michael Hall is Chief Information Security Officer, DriveSavers Data Recovery, Inc. With over 14 years of experience in data recovery technology, focusing on high-end arrays, he has successfully recovered data from over 12,000 storage devices. Hall partners with customers to develop security protocols for the handling of sensitive and encrypted data. | Mike HelinskyDirector of Information Technology Operations, Brooks Rehabilitation In his current position with Brooks Rehabilitation, Helinsky is responsible for day to day operations of the local and wide area network, patient care systems and technology helpdesk for the organization. Prior to joining Brooks Rehabilitation, Helinsky directed the information technology department in another large healthcare organization in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Helinsky has been working in technology for over 18 years in the real estate development, banking, and computer services fields within the southeastern United States. | Mark HoganChief Information Officer, Cleveland Airport System Mark J. Hogan is the chief information officer for the Cleveland Airport System. Located in Cleveland, Ohio, the Airport System operates two airports: Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE), the 35th largest commercial airport in the United States, and Burke Lakefront Airport (BKL), a general aviation facility and reliever airport for CLE. In this capacity he sets the strategic technology direction for the Airport System and directs all aspects of technology servicing administrative, operational and security functions. | Bob RussoGeneral Manager, PCI Security Standards Council Bob Russo, the general manager of the PCI Security Standards Council, works with representatives from American Express, Discover Financial, JCB, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa International to drive awareness and adoption of the PCI Data Security Standard. Russo is responsible for driving the organization’s policies, as well as meeting its goals to create education programs, establish pools of certified qualified security assessors (QSAs) and approved scanning vendors (ASVs), and incorporate feedback from all stakeholders across the payment chain into the work of the Council and the development of new standards. In addition, Russo oversees the PCI Security Standards Council's training, testing, and certification programs for QSAs and ASVs.
Russo brings more than 25 years of high-tech business management, operations, and security experience to the PCI Security Standards Council. Russo will guide the organization through its crucial charter, focused on improving data security standards for merchants, banks, and other key stakeholders involved in the global payment card transaction process.
| John StewartVice President and Chief Security Officer, Cisco John Stewart provides leadership and direction to multiple corporate security and government teams throughout Cisco, strategically aligning with business units and the IT organization to generate leading corporate security practices, policies, and processes. His organization focuses on global information security consulting and services, security evaluation, critical infrastructure assurance, e-discovery, source code security, identification management, and special programs that promote Cisco, Internet, and national security. Additionally, he is responsible for overseeing the security for Cisco.com, the infrastructure supporting Cisco’s more than $35 billion business.
Stewart’s longstanding career in information security encompasses numerous roles. He was the chief security officer responsible for operational and strategic direction for corporate and customer security at Digital Island. Stewart has served as a research scientist responsible for investigating emerging technologies in the Office of the CTO at Cable & Wireless America. He has professional experience in software development and systems and network administration and is a software specialist, author, and instructor.
Stewart holds a master of science degree in computer and information science from Syracuse University.
| Marie HattarVice President of Network Systems and Security Solutions, Cisco Marie Hattar brings more than 18 years of industry experience to her role as Vice President of Network Systems and Security Solutions at Cisco. Currently, Hattar is responsible for setting and developing a strategic vision that integrates key places in the network: branch, wide area network, campus, and security. Under her guidance, Hattar’s organization creates and markets innovative routing, switching, and security solutions to customers and channel partners.
Throughout her career, Hattar has held leadership roles in product marketing, product management, software engineering, competitive intelligence, and finance. She has been instrumental in building security and network architectures for leading Fortune 500 companies. Prior to joining Cisco, Hattar served as a senior leader for Nortel’s enterprise business unit, where she co-created the company’s enterprise vision.
An industry expert in data communications, convergence, and security, Hattar was previously chair of the Broadband Content Delivery Forum and is co-author of IP Services at the Network Edge published by Addison-Wesley.
Hattar holds a master’s degree in business administration in marketing from York University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Toronto, where she graduated in the top 1 percent of her undergraduate class. | Christopher BurgessDirector, Senior Security Advisor, Corporate Security Programs Organization, Cisco Christopher Burgess is a senior security advisor to the chief security officer of Cisco, where he focuses on intellectual property strategies. Additionally, Burgess leads the Global Investigative Support team, providing forensic support to the enterprise; the Government Security Office, addressing global national industrial security support and administration; and the Global Threat Analysis team, providing geopolitical, economic, and security analysis, all from within the Corporate Security Programs Office. Prior to joining Cisco, Burgess served as a senior national security executive for more than 30 years.
Burgess is the co-author of the book Secrets Stolen, Fortunes Lost, Preventing Intellectual Property Theft and Economic Espionage in the 21st Century. In April 2008, CSO magazine published his study “Nation States’ Espionage and Counterespionage, Overview of the 2007 Global Economic Espionage Landscape.” | Dave GoddardVice President, Technical Support, Cisco Dave Goddard is responsible for all Technical Service Security Programs and Intelligence at Cisco. He leads a diverse, global organization that provides 24x7 security coverage for some of the largest networked environments around the globe. Goddard’s organization is responsible for a wide array of security programs, including the Cisco Security Center (www.cisco.com/security), IntelliShield Alert Manager Services, IPS Signature development, Product Security Incident Response (PSIRT), and security research and intelligence. PSIRT, the global function responsible for the management and public release of all Cisco security vulnerabilities, is recognized as one of the most effective and influential security teams in this industry.
Goddard has been with Cisco for over 14 years. He has held various roles in the EMEA and U.S. theaters. After establishing the Critical Accounts Program (CAP) in EMEA, he progressed through various management roles to Director of the Service Provider Advanced Services organization for the Americas. In 2002, Goddard returned to the Technical Services team to run the global CAP and charter Cisco’s Customer Assurance Security Programs. Goddard also has extensive experience in crisis management, including leading Operations for Cisco’s Corporate Crisis Management Team, which leads the response effort to significant global events.
| Patrick PetersonVice President of Technology, IronPort Systems, a Cisco Business Unit Patrick Peterson began at IronPort performing market research and product definition for the email infrastructure products that have become IronPort's Email Security Appliances and was instrumental in the creation of SenderBase, the industry's first and largest email traffic monitoring service.
Prior to joining IronPort Systems, Peterson held engineering and marketing management positions at Savi Technology, including managing the Engineering and Manufacturing departments as Vice President, Engineering Operations. He played a critical role during the sale of the company to Texas Instruments and also in winning a $111 million competitively bid logistics contract.
Peterson has been active in spam, other messaging abuse issues, and combating online crime since he joined IronPort Systems as employee number six in January 2001. In the last six years he has been on the cutting edge in understanding criminal techniques and developing the technologies to combat them.
Peterson holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University and holds patents related to antennas, radio frequency communications, and email authentication techniques.
| Fred KostDirector, Security Solutions Marketing, Cisco Kost is Director of Security Solutions Marketing at Cisco and responsible for marketing the Cisco Self-Defending Network security portfolio. Prior to Cisco, Kost has been involved in network security and held executive marketing roles with Symantec, nCircle, Recourse and Blue Lane and has twenty years of combined marketing and product development experience.
Kost holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina. |
